User Manual · v 4.0

Everything Magic Weather can do.

A short tour of every feature, every gesture, every tap. Skim the table of contents or read top-to-bottom in about ten minutes.

1 · Install & first launch

Magic Weather is free, has no account, and does not show ads.

iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV

Open the App Store on your device and search for Magic Weather. The Watch and TV apps install alongside iOS automatically — one purchase, four platforms.

Mac

  1. Download MagicWeather-4.0.0.dmg.
  2. Open the disk image and drag MagicWeather into Applications.
  3. First launch may prompt for permission — open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway.
  4. Allow Location Services when asked, or set a place manually in Settings.
Universal binary. The Mac app runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel.

2 · Magic Earth — the 3D globe

The Earth tab is a real, photoreal SceneKit globe. It renders high-res satellite tiles, a bundled offline Earth as fallback, global weather overlays and a procedural starfield.

Gestures

  • One-finger drag — pan the globe. Horizontal sensitivity is high, vertical is gently inverted so up-flicks tilt north.
  • Pinch / scroll wheel — zoom from continent (1.5) to deep space (16.0). Default ≈ 4.8.
  • Release — momentum decays at 0.985 and transitions smoothly into a slow idle rotation.

Overlays

The pill row at the bottom switches the active overlay:

  • Clouds — live cloud cover
  • Precip — current precipitation intensity
  • Temp — surface temperature heat-map
  • Wind — wind speed bands
  • Pressure — sea-level pressure

Day & night

The terminator is computed from the real UTC sun position. The night side reveals city lights (emission map) under a soft shadow gradient. Spin the globe past dawn and you'll watch the lights wink off in real time.

3 · Forecast tab

Right Now

The header shows current temperature, condition, today's high/low, and a "More" disclosure for the long description. Below that:

  • Activity tip — a one-line plain-language read on the day ("Great weather for outdoor activities!").
  • Dress hint — flagged when the day's range exceeds ~15° ("Big temperature swing — dress in layers").
  • AI Summary — Apple Intelligence on iOS 26 / macOS 26 generates a one-sentence read of conditions, temperature, rain, wind, humidity and UV. Fallback summary appears on older OSes.

Hourly chart

A multi-line graph with toggleable layers: Temp · Feels · Wind · Rain · Snow · Clouds. Tap the resize button to enter the immersive landscape view.

10-Day Forecast

Each row shows day name, rain probability chip (when >20%), wind chip (when ≥40 km/h), condition icon, low–high temperature bar (relative to the 10-day range), and a chevron. The day with the best score is outlined in green; the worst in red.

Tap a day to expand

The expanded panel shows a 3-hourly breakdown with a vertical gradient and per-hour metric bars. Switch metrics with the bottom pills:

  • Temp — cool blue → warm orange
  • Feels Like — same scale as temp
  • Rain % — light → deep blue
  • Precip — millimeters per hour
  • Wind — calm teal → strong orange
  • Humidity — dry → humid blue
  • Pressure — low purple → high green

4 · Detail cards

Below the 10-day list sits a grid of detail cards. Each shows current value, a category label, a trend arrow (up / down / stable) and a colored progress bar.

  • Wind — speed with gust badge and live compass
  • Humidity — Dry / Comfortable / Humid / Very Humid
  • Visibility — Very Poor → Excellent
  • Pressure — hPa, mbar or inHg
  • Dew Point — Dry → Very Humid scale
  • UV Index — Low → Extreme
  • Cloud Cover — Clear → Overcast
  • Air Quality — EPA PM2.5 with six-step gauge
  • Sunrise & Sunset — animated progress through the day, with countdown
  • Weather Analysis — full-width insights panel
Reorder them. Long-press and drag any card to reshuffle the grid. Wind always stays first. The order is saved on the device.

5 · Notifications

Magic Weather watches the atmosphere for you and pings you when the sky is about to do something interesting.

Live Activity & Dynamic Island

When precipitation, storms, snow, or fog are detected, a Live Activity appears on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island showing real-time minute-by-minute intensity.

Monitored locations

Toggle which saved locations should produce alerts. By default only Current Location is on — flip extras on for travel.

Government alerts

Official severe-weather warnings — the U.S. national alerts feed and the European continent-wide warning network — are surfaced inside the app and as push notifications when enabled.

Built-in alert types

  • Precipitation: rain expected, rain starting/stopping soon, snow expected, snow starting/stopping soon
  • Temperature: significant drop, significant rise
  • Storms: tropical cyclone form / intensify / category change (East Pacific, Central Pacific)
  • Sky phenomena: rainbow watch, stargazing conditions, golden hour, fog bow, aurora watch, static shock risk
  • Health & body: pressure-headache warning, heat-index alert
  • Travel advisories: opt-in

Custom notifications

Build your own rule — "alert me if humidity stays above 80% for more than 4 hours" — using the custom notification editor.

  • Wind Compass — direction and speed

Plus a miniaturized 3D Globe view and complications for every watch face.
